Some were shocked (disappointed?), some said what a great idea (I like those supportive people), some questioned why I was walking away from permaculture… and I feel I have to justify myself and my decision to them??
But it isn’t separate, everything is linked, but not everyone can see that.
Imagine how useful I could be with nursing qualifications and permaculture design qualifications?
Imagine helping people achieve health through growing their own food?
Imagine being able to travel and work in places delivering community nursing care and permaculture skills?
I know a woman who teaches really useful sustainable living skills – and she is a doctor.
Not many people know she is a doctor - she doesn’t tell many people, but she is on call 24/7 to respond to humanitarian crises as a medical doctor anywhere in the world – and as part of that she is also able to teach survival and resilience skills – how good is that?
There are a group of student nurses travelling to Tanzania later this year… imagine how useful it would be to leave a little permaculture magic in the villages you volunteered in.
Health is part of permaculture and permaculture is part of health.
Its not separate – everything is linked…
cheers,
Sonya

Don't worry about what others think. You are going to do great things will all of your knowledge. Good luck!!
I totally agree with you Sonya. My daughter is a 2nd year nursing student at University of the Sunshine Coast. Is that where you are heading off to? Having been born on a cattle station in western QLD she would like to nurse in a remote area. They find it very hard to get health professionals in isolated areas & as she like the lifestyle & is accustomed to it I think she will do well.
Blow the rest of the world! I get asked why I'm "wasting" my teaching qualifications "just" working in our shop. Fly hugh and proud Sonya.
I second what Mel said. I think the two can blend beautifully. In the years to come my children and grandchildren will need people like you in the world more than ever. Enjoy your studies!
Cheers, Karen near Gympie.
I think its a great marriage of professions. I am going back to uni this year as well - so good luck and greats marks to the both of us!
Yes Caroline, I'm at USC, good luck with your studies Sheridan, thanks to everyone for your support, I'm so looking forward to getting started.
Pfffft to the negative comments Sonya. It think they are a great combination.
You will be awesome.
Everyone is multifaceted, otherwise we would be very boring. I am so glad for you that you have found another passion to add to your already busy lifestyle. I think nursing must be a very rewarding profession, and can only complement the rest of your life, however you choose to use it.
I think its fantastic that you are going to be doing nursing! I think life is too short to let other people decide which dreams you follow! :)
Hi Sonya
I think it's a wonderful idea and your articulation of how everything is linked is absolutely spot on! Good luck and have a wonderful year!
